Affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution, The Atomic Museum (aka National Atomic Testing Museum) combines historical exhibits on the development and testing of early atomic bombs with a small exhibition of World War II-era spy tools and a kitschy gift shop. A stunning “Ground Zero” theater enables visitors to experience the sonic shockwaves of an atomic bomb test before or after examining the outsides and components of nuclear bombs and missiles, as well as photos and details of underground nuclear testing sites.
The Atomic Museum is notably within walking (or very brief driving) distance of Las Vegas’s famous Thai restaurant Lotus of Siam.
