Thanh Thi Bakery
One of Little Saigon's well-established, unfancy homestyle Vietnamese dessert bakeries
Although the plaza environment around it isn’t always great – and felt downright uncomfortable during and immediately after the pandemic – Thanh Thi Bakery has historically specialized in making traditional and affordable Vietnamese desserts – homemade-style baked goods, including ones commonly purchased in batches, and not ones with any degree of fancy presentation or plating.
It also offers a collection of semi-liquid desserts (che cups) including corn and pea drinks, jellies, and puddings, plus several drinks (beauty teas and coffees), as well as cupcakes and other simple pastries. Everything is aggressively priced: Most of the baked items are less than $1.50 each, and there are discounts for buying multiple items at once.
Shown here are multiple Vietnamese Banh Bo cakes, including honeycomb, cassava, steamed rice, flan cake, taro, banana, and pandan layer, as well as flan. Everything we tried was unfancy but pretty good – their banana cakes are particularly strong.
A newer and related location, Sota-Mita by Thanh Thi Bakery, opened in mid-2024. It’s also in Garden Grove, and has a very similar menu, with more seating space and a different counter display system.
