About Us

OCalpha exists to spotlight noteworthy destinations and experiences in Orange County, California, as well as regional, national, and international context of interest to our readers. Launching with over 800 restaurants, museums, and shopping destinations spread across dozens of Orange County cities, OCalpha is designed, written, photographed, and curated by Jeremy Horwitz.

A world traveler and champion of innovation, Jeremy believes Orange County has become one of America’s great culinary destinations, thanks to its continuous embrace of novel ideas and growing cultural diversity. From Irvine to Little Saigon, and Disneyland to South Coast Plaza, Orange County has become a place where entrepreneurs are building new chains from the ground up, and where prominent national and international businesses build first-of-kind outposts ahead of wider roll-outs elsewhere. OCalpha’s passion is fueled by Orange County’s constant evolution.

Before developing OCalpha, Jeremy previously created the internet’s first video game publication Intelligent Gamer, ran leading Apple site iLounge, and developed pioneering food blog Buffalo Chow. He then opened his own restaurant – introducing Buffalo to a locally novel cuisine and winning multiple awards – before returning permanently to Orange County. OCalpha fulfills Jeremy’s years-long dream of advocating for Orange County’s place in the global food discussion – and seeks to positively collaborate with others to raise the region’s profile nationally and internationally.

Why should you trust OCalpha? First, 100% of our editorial content is independently produced without involvement from the businesses we cover: We are self-funded, and our editorial coverage cannot be bought. So whether you agree or disagree with our opinions, they’re our honest, unpaid takes on our own experiences – if we say we loved, hated, or felt indifferent about something, you can be confident that we’re telling the truth, without any secret agenda.

Additionally, and unlike Yelp, we do not allow pseudonyms, staged photos, or fake reviews (positive or negative) to appear here. All of our in-restaurant photos were taken while seated as actual customers under normal dining and lighting conditions. At a time when artificial intelligence is widely being used to generate both text and imagery, no AI was used to create our editorial content.
