Sushi Roku
Higher-end, somewhat Americanized sushi and izakaya fare in Newport Beach (and elsewhere)
With five locations in California – including one in Newport Beach – Sushi Roku is a small chain of higher-end sushiyas-slash-izakayas in the mold of Nobu restaurants. We’ve visited only the Las Vegas location, which has a nice menu, friendly service, and quality sushi, at above-average prices.
There are two major attractions on the menu: a full array of high-quality sushi, sashimi, and specialty roll-ready fish (including bluefin, bigeye, and toro-cut tuna), plus a significant collection of izakaya fare ranging from delicious miso eggplant and cod to garlic green beans, brussels sprout chips, several robata yakitori skewers, and a handful of heavily sauced crudos and carpaccios. If small plates aren’t your thing, several entrees covering the major bases (steak, chicken, and fish) are available for roughly $30 to $50 a plate, including carrots and mashed potatoes.
If we visited again, we’d likely stick with the less locally common izakaya items, which we particularly enjoyed on our visit. Should sushi be your preference, expect to pay about $5 per individual piece, and $15 to $30 for an 8-piece cut roll.
