SteelCraft Garden Grove

Reclaimed shipping containers enable the uniquely modern yet rustic design of this outdoor food hall

Founded in 2017 in Long Beach, SteelCraft operates outdoor food halls built with repurposed shipping containers – a great idea given the millions of sometimes colorful and always practical metal boxes that travel through the Port of Long Beach and Port of Los Angeles. SteelCraft operates one location in Orange County: this space in Garden Grove, which opened in 2019.

Regardless of the vendors operating at SteelCraft at any given time, the modern yet rustic, reclaimed material setting is truly interesting to explore, and the location has been designed as family-friendly, with plenty of outdoor seating and play areas for kids. Events such as Oktoberfest, Mexican Independence Day, and DogFest continue to bring additional energy and attractions to Garden Grove, including pop-up shopping and photography opportunities.

When we visited, we enjoyed great Thai chicken rice (khao man gai) and banh mi from The Chick N Shack and good tacos from Renegade Taco. Both closed as a result of the pandemic, and have since been replaced: as of 2024, the current lineup includes Aldente (pasta, flatbreads), Barrio (Filipino and Korean), Beachwood Brewing, Bird Talk (fried chicken sandwiches), La Taqueria Brand (street tacos), OniGuru (Japanese onigiri), Swagyu Burger (smashburgers and katsu sandos), Tea Otter (boba), and two non-food vendors: Studio X by Ironfire Workspaces, and Xtyle It Fashion.
