Stater Bros.
Why pay steakhouse prices when you can grill restaurant-quality beef with minimal skill and effort?
Founded in 1936 and headquartered in San Bernardino, Stater Bros. is a major supermarket chain in Southern California, known for years as a leader in selling fresh meats at low prices: “it’s our meat that made us famous” was the chain’s unofficial slogan.
This page isn’t here to dive deeply into Stater Bros history, but to note as you scroll through our pages that while we love Brazilian churrascarias and Korean BBQs, we don’t visit any traditional steakhouses. The reason is simple: When we want a traditional steak, we buy it at Stater Bros. and grill it ourselves. We did this when steak was half as expensive as it is today, and now that a 16-ounce ribeye or NY strip steak costs over $70 at Morton’s, paying one-fifth or -tenth that at a supermarket makes even more sense – using the savings from just a few steak dinners, you can pay for the cost of a new grill.
How do you achieve steakhouse-caliber results? Simple: Properly seasoned your steak ahead of grilling with coarse salt, black pepper, and olive oil, then cook it at the right temperature over an open flame, adjusted for your specific grill and preferred level of doneness. We know from experience that the results match or exceed steakhouse quality – cooking a steak isn’t magic.
Especially as restaurant prices climb, we save our dining out dollars for experiences that aren’t easily to duplicate at home. Steak is one of the most straightforward to make yourself, and choosing quality meat from a store such as Stater Bros. is the easiest route to success.
