Seafood City Supermarket

Filipino food and drinks galore at the two locations of this growing supermarket chain

With over 20 locations in California, including two in Orange County, this Filipino supermarket offers Anaheim and Irvine residents easy access to both a wide variety of raw ingredients and several Filipino restaurants. From common snapper to colorful iridescent parrot fish, the seafood sections are packed with interesting iced fish, as well as plenty of pork products, even including pigs’ heads. Aisles primarily devoted to Filipino snack foods, ice creams, sauces, dry ingredients, and other favorites – noodles, soups, beverages, and more – also include scattered items from across Asia and America.

Ready-to-eat items are also abundant. Found at both the Anaheim and Irvine stores, Grill City is a fairly large, Seafood City-run Filipino BBQ restaurant with active grills and steam trays, enabling guests to order everything from grilled meats to staple Filipino dishes and drinks. While the Irvine store has two bakeries – a dessert shop called Red Ribbon, and a traditional panaderia named Velerio’s Bake House, the Anaheim location has Seafood City’s self-run Bakers Avenue, a substantial panaderia. Jollibee, a famous Filipino fried chicken chain, also has its own space at the Irvine store.

Seafood City’s biggest competitor in Orange County is Island Pacific Seafood Market, a 20-store chain with a Lake Forest location. Island Pacific offers an extremely similar assortment of raw ingredients and ready-to-eat meals, minus Jollibee.
