QT Golden Market Place
A largely Vietnamese market in Garden Grove with more potential than actual activity
We were genuinely excited when we first spotted QT Golden Market Place back in August 2021, just before it officially opened. Anchoring the same plaza as MyCha (formerly Matcha Cafe Maiko and within steps of local favorites such as Cambodian/Vietnamese noodle shop Hu Tieu de Nhat, seafood and hotpot specialist Oc & Lau, and KBBQ mainstay Mo Ran Gak, the enormous QT Golden space is divided into two halves – the Market Place on the left, and the Food Court on the right.
The Market Place is a flea market-like collection of small shops, generally understaffed or not staffed whenever we’ve stopped by. By comparison, the Food Court is somewhat more active, hosting small coffee, tea, and ice cream shops up front, Thai, Korean, and Vietnamese places on one side, and a variety of small (largely Vietnamese) kiosks and restaurants off to the sides and back.
Some of the vendors are actually interesting. For instance, if you’ve ever wanted to know what Vietnamese Durian Coffee (Cafe Sau Rieng) tastes like, Hello Cafe will make you a cup – essentially plain coffee with durian-flecked whipped cream. They also sell interesting-looking but modestly flavored macarons. We preferred the sweets at their neighbor Loopy Loop, which sells nice banana and peanut ice cream bars, as well as large ice cream macarons. Chubbi, a boba shop, sells tall and very sweet cups of tea at typical ($7-8) prices. Located very close to the entrance, these shops are somewhat unique in having actually been open every time we’ve checked in.
Across multiple visits, however, we’ve never seen many people in QT Golden, and at least half of the businesses inside appeared to be either temporarily or permanently closed. There are stores inside, but the shopping area looks more like an empty flea market than a mall. On visits throughout 2021 to 2024, there were a handful of intriguing Vietnamese street food stands similar or identical to ones at Little Saigon Night Market with basic signage and menus up, but either no employees or no customers. In early 2025, many of the restaurant spaces appeared to have been taken over by newer businesses – surprisingly including a kiosk-sized outpost of K Soul Food from The Source and South Coast Plaza – and the common dining table area seemed at least a little more active. A Laotian/Thai restaurant called Sweet Rice and Spice is a recent standout.
If everything inside was operational, we could imagine QT Golden being a great place to stop for all sorts of locally obscure Vietnamese dishes, but it’s unclear whether the space will ever truly live up to its potential. Our suggestion would be to stop in on the way to checking out something else in Little Saigon, rather than making this a final destination, and you may be pleasantly surprised by how much you find inside.
