Anaheim Packing District
An impressive indoor gourmet food hall spread across historic and new Anaheim buildings
In the early 2000s, food halls began popping up in the United States, some inspired by historic Spanish markets and Singaporean hawker centers. One of Orange County’s best versions of this concept is the Anaheim Packing District, which houses dozens of food and drink vendors in Sunkist’s former Packing House building. (Entirely walkable, the District also includes two restaurants in the nearby Farmers Park, two more in the Packard Building, and four more spaces in the MAKE Building.)
On the first floor of Packing House, you’ll find ice cream, pizza, and Cajun-Vietnamese vendors alongside a speakeasy nestled inside a train car, while the second floor features multiple open beer and cocktail bars alongside Indian, British, French, Syrian, and Mexican restaurants, a boba tea shop, and a gift shop with foodie-friendly, purpose-driven products.
Fans of American and American-adjacent dining will find plenty of options here. From gourmet grilled cheese to soul food and bar fare, there’s no shortage of places selling sandwiches, salads, and your choice of breaded/deep-fried treats. On the bottom floor, a noodle shop has a small but fascinating collection of individually packaged Thai snack foods available for purchase alongside Japanese Ramune bottles. Small groups and couples will find seating available throughout the space, with a larger communal area on the ground floor; most of the upstairs vendors offer either counters or small dedicated tables, while some are effectively take-away only.
Parking is frequently a challenge immediately next to the Packing House, so if you’re coming during typical meal hours, prepare to find a space somewhere nearby and do a little walking.
