Old Ferry Donut

When South Korean donut chain Old Ferry Donut opened its first U.S. location inside The Source in 2023, it set a new standard for donuts in a region that already has some of the most incredible donut shops (Friendly Donuts, Knead Donuts & Tea, Oliboli Donuts) in the country – as well as a noteworthy competitor, Yozm Donut, only floors away. While competitors have mastered various styles of donuts and debuted dozens of great flavors, Old Ferry Donut’s concept is simpler: make perfect versions of classics.

We chose the word “perfect,” not sterile, because it allows for the reality that donuts can be messy, sugary, fattening, and otherwise challenging while still being fantastic. They also don’t have to be one-note sweet or cheap like Krispy Kreme’s lowest common denominator offerings. Moreover, at a time when many donut shops (wisely) use social media to tout their frequent new releases, Old Ferry doesn’t rotate everything – it swaps only one or two donuts in a given month – and doesn’t have to.
