Okayama Kobo

At a time when French, Mexican, Cuban, American, and Taiwanese bakeries are far more common in Orange County, Anaheim’s Okayama Kobo stands out as one of several Japanese bakeries with distinctive offerings and flavors. Rivaling the Fountain Valley and Tustin Cream Pan locations in quality, Okayama Kobo has a smaller assortment of baked goods, as well as a smaller footprint, frequently leading to long lines before customers can even examing their several display cases of currently available sweet and savory offerings.

We don’t say this lightly, but Okayama Kobo’s curry pan buns – beloved snack items commonly sold in Japan’s convenience stores – are even better than Cream Pan’s, particularly the “spicy curry pan,” which is filled with legitimately spicy vegetable curry and coated in a panko crust. Their sweet treats range from tasty (such as s’more danishes) to just plain cute (chocolate emoji, vanilla bean custard Kobokuma bear pastries).
