Natural History Museum of LA County

Come for the dinosaurs, stay for the minerals, precious gems, and jewelry

Adjacent to the La Brea Tar Pits, site of numerous animal and plant fossils dating back tens of thousands of years, the Natural History Museum of LA County is perhaps best known for its dinosaur bone exhibits, big cat and bird taxidermy, and interactive “lab” spaces. But it also has a tremendous collection of minerals, precious and semi-precious stones, and jewelry in its Gem and Mineral Hall, including everything from meterorites to cut diamonds, rubies, and emeralds. Recent rotating special exhibitions have included spiders, wolves, and underwater themes.

Admission is ticketed for adults and students, with additional fees for special exhibits. Parking is $18-20 depending on the lot you select.
