Mr BBQ

One of Orange County's best Korean BBQs is filling up Fullerton

As big fans of Korean BBQ, we’ve sought out the best options across Orange County for years, finding several strong options in and around Little Saigon. Mr BBQ is one of them, having survived the pandemic by offering all-you-can-eat meals from outdoor grills in its parking lot while indoor dining was still dicey. Now it’s reopened with the full AYCE experience, priced starting at $37 for dinner or $30 for lunch.

Every table gets 11 different banchan, and while the standard menu has 29 choices ranging from miso pork butt to Wagyu beef belly, a $10 upcharge provides access to nine premium meats and seafood: Black Angus filet mignon, USDA prime short ribs and ribeye, Wagyu NY strip and beef tongue, fresh pork jowls, Alaskan king salmon, spicy baby octopus, and scallops.

At either price point, the protein quality and flavors are great, so our advice is to go with whichever menu has the dishes that excite you. We’re good with the base level choices, but spicy baby octopus and scallops would certainly be a draw towards the premium version on occasion.

The only caveats with Mr BBQ are timing related: Waits can be long, even at off hours and when there are clearly tables open; you may need to wait an hour to be seated. There are no reservations – just a first-come, first-served policy with a wait list, and even then, you can only join the wait list when you’re within a small radius of the restaurant. If this (and the parking) don’t deter you, expect to have an outstanding KBBQ meal at a reasonable price given its quality.
