Though it has been under construction for years – with its most recent full reopening date set for summer 2026 – the LA County Museum of Art continues to offer one of the region’s most interesting collections of modern and contemporary art. From its distinctive outdoor installations of lampposts and zodiac sculptures to its permanent and rotating galleries, LACMA’s collection includes classic abstract paintings, a gigantic model of a city with moving vehicles, Barbara Kruger/Orwellian messaging, exhibitions of Asian and Middle Eastern cultural objects and antiquities, and multiple explorations of perceptions of Southern California, doomsday scenarios, and the future. Much of LACMA’s 150,000+ object collection remains in storage or on loan to other museums awaiting completion of new galleries.
Parking is available at an adjacent lot for $21, or can be shared with the walkably close Petersen Museum.
