Lo Banh Cuon Tan Hoang Huong

Famous Little Saigon banh mi chain THH also has a one-off store focused on soft rice rolls

Also known as Tan Hoang Huong, THH Sandwiches & Coffee is one of Orange County’s best and most established Vietnamese sandwich chains, specializing in banh mis and spring rolls while offering a handful of other items that vary from location to location. One Santa Ana plaza has two different THH restaurants: a standard sandwich shop, and a one-off version called Lo Banh Cuon Tan Hoang Huong.

This location focuses on banh cuon (pronounced ban-coohn), soft, medium thickness rice rolls served with your choice of pork or shrimp fillings, bean sprouts, and fish sauce for dipping. If you visit the right THH locations, you will find both banh mi and several types of banh cuon being sold at the same counter, but here, there are no banh mi options, so you’re supposed to choose banh cuon packaged individually or in larger, party tray-ready quantities.

In our visits, THH’s banh cuon aren’t as delicious in any way (fillings, rolls, bundles) as the versions at Banh Cuon Luu Luyen or Banh Cuon Thanh Tri, but they’re less expensive by the pound. You can also order party tray sizes of crispy noodles, clear rice noodles, and jellyfish salads here, with some items offered in single-serving portions, including tapioca coconut cakes and sticky bean rice.

The menu distinctions from other THH restaurants make Lo Banh Cuon THH worth checking out at least once. But given the choice, we’d sooner return to any of the chain’s sandwich shops and save our banh cuon dollars for other places.
