Liuli

Taiwanese crystal art, available in Orange County museums and South Coast Plaza

Beautiful crystal artwork developed by Taiwanese studio Liuli Gong Fang (better known in the U.S. as Liuli) previously had its own dedicated store in South Coast Plaza near Din Tai Fung, which continues to exhibit Liuli art in its windows and a display case inside. Founded in 1987, Liuli produces lead crystal pieces based on animals (including zodiac signs), nature, Chinese mythology, religious inscriptions, and other themes chosen by its artists. Most are translucent and internally colored; gold is rarely used as an opaque accent in specific pieces.

Although Orange County’s standalone Liuli store has closed, the company still maintains a substantial collection of its art for sale at Bloomingdales on the other side of the mall. A handful of Liuli pieces can also be found at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana.
