Layer Cake Bakery

Stonecreek Plaza is home to a collection of “fine” food establishments that either were never particularly great, or declined over the years to become merely decent now. Just steps away from the fine Vietnamese food you can find at Pho Ba Co, and only a little further from fine Thai food at Thai Kitchen, you can get fine macarons and pastries at Layer Cake Bakery.

Across several visits to Layer Cake, dine-in and carry-out, we’ve tried cookies, cakes, tarts, and cupcakes, none particularly memorable beyond being serviceable. Display cases nicely present full-sized cakes and cupcakes that sometimes look really nice, though in our experiences, what should be moist inside was too often a little dry, as if they’d been in the case for a while. Similarly, though there’s a small selection of available drinks, they tend to be pretty basic compared with local specialty destinations, both in ambition and execution.

We stopped feeling the need to go back, but as the location has so much potential – near schools and plenty of other businesses – we hope it rejuvenates and becomes more of a draw for the area.
