La Colombe Cafe
Before it became a top vendor of supermarket cold brew, it created great third wave coffee shops
Originally founded in Philadelphia back in 1994 as a coffee roastery and cafe, La Colombe has expanded into a leading producer of cold brew coffees and lattes for supermarkets, now owned by Chobani and Keurig Dr. Pepper. As fans of the cold brew, which is available in multiple versions and aggressively priced given its high quality, thus an easy pick for home consumption – we’re briefly highlighting the company’s coffee shops to keep them on readers’ radars.
In some places, they’re called La Colombe Cafes, and in others, La Colombe Coffee Roasters; it’s unclear how much of a focus they’ll be under their more recent Chopani ownership. Regardless, the cafes make excellent enough lattes and iced drinks to be worth visiting if you’re nearby – the third wave, barista-driven beverages are considerably better than Starbucks equivalents.
There are four La Colombes in Los Angeles and one in San Diego, in addition to five in Washington, DC (where we visited the Chinatown location), with 22 others across five other states. We’d love to see one come to Orange County.
