Kababji Grill

Distinctive Lebanese raw and grilled meats are hits at this small Anaheim restaurant

There are so many good reasons to visit Little Arabia, and Kababji Grill is certainly one of them. Located in the same Anaheim plaza as House of Mandi, Forn Al Hara, and Qahwah & Chapati, Kababji Grill is the smallest of these places, with several tables in front of an ordering counter and display case that separate customers from the open kitchen.

This is home to Lebanese delicacies including raw meats (frake, shown above), grilled sausages, and of course kababs. Quality is high across the board, and there’s clearly pride in the way the meat boards are prepared and served – each dollop of frake looked hand-sculpted for attractive presentation, and other meats were presented in an idealized, rustic way despite very affordable prices.

Although commonly available Middle Eastern items such as baba ghanouj and hummus are solid here, our advice is to spend a little time exploring their menu online – and cross-reference unfamiliar items such as kafta nayye, kibbe nayye, and maise – so you can be prepared to try some of their more locally uncommon preparations and meats. The menu has plenty of photos, but could be more descriptive to attract new guests; perhaps that’s not Kababji Grill’s intent.

We think Kababji Grill’s worth the extra effort to understand and check out. For many people, its Lebanese raw and grilled dishes will be palate expanders, and very hard to forget after your first visit.
