I Can Barbecue Korean Grill

Premium-priced all-you-can-eat OC Korean BBQ with a fair selection of meats and fillers

With locations in Irvine, Santa Ana, and Tustin – coming soon to Fountain Valley, as well – I Can Barbecue Korean Grill is a good though somewhat expensive all-you-can-eat KBBQ option distinguished more by its bright, clean interior design than its menu offerings. Weekday lunches are $30, with weekend lunches and every night’s dinner at $39. That’s $8-9 more per person at each meal than Gen Korean BBQ, and you get a comparable selection of options to choose from. One difference: I Can Barbecue offers guests two hours of dining time rather than 90 minutes, not that most people are likely to need the extra half hour.

There are 34 items to order at lunch and 44 at dinner. Padded somewhat by salad, veggie, pita bread, and corn torilla offerings, weekday lunches are largely focused on various pork belly and chicken marinades, beef brisket and bulgogi, and a few octopus/squid dishes. Curry pork belly and baby octopus were particular highlights during each of our meals. The 10 additional dinner and weekend lunch items include shrimp, as well as new beef and pork cuts such as short ribs and sirloin steaks.

Across several visits to the Irvine location, we’ve found the overall experiences good, but unremarkable. Service tends to be friendly and efficient, in part because the restaurant’s walking spaces require servers to pass by multiple tables rather than hiding in corners. That said, although the quality of meats is promoted as “key” on the I Can Barbecue website, it isn’t actually all that amazing by comparison with comparably priced KBBQ restaurants such as Mr BBQ or Grams. There’s a fair amount of fatty and thin-cut meat here, with nothing in the wagyu or prime beef departments.

Like Gen, I Can Barbecue’s single biggest selling point is convenience. Many of the county’s top KBBQ destinations are northern, and I Can Barbecue locations are closer to the center. Consider them if the Little Saigon area is too far of a drive from your location, and your budget is able to accommodate the pricing.
