With two locations in Los Angeles in addition to 15 others spread across Europe, New York, and Hong Kong, Hauser & Wirth has spent 30 years representing contemporary artists and their estates. The LA galleries offer roughly 100-day exhibitions spanning decidedly local, national, and international themes, including curated commentaries on culture (“LA Story” riffs on visual and art motifs from Steve Martin’s classic movie, “Aggressive Dr1fter” reflected gaming’s aesthetic influences on art), politics (“White Noise” explored societal processing of information and misinformation), and more.
While the Downtown LA space is a spacious former flour mill with multiple galleries, the smaller West Hollywood location is a converted auto dealership with a narrower focus. Some artists sell merchandise at Hauser & Wirth; we were thrilled by a unique mystery item pop-up at the downtown LA location featuring Stefan Brüggemann’s Re-Logo t-shirts. Admission is free, and parking is available nearby.
