Grand Ferrero Rocher

Multiplying the impact of an increasingly beloved hazelnut and chocolate candy

Combining hazelnuts with either milk, dark, or white chocolate, Ferrero Rocher candies are typically golf ball-sized and served in packages of three to 48 pieces, each individually foil-wrapped. Launched by the Italian company Ferraro Group in 1982 before coming to the U.S. in 1988, they’ve become more popular over the past 20 years, both as standalone treats and as flavorings for ice creams and gelatos.

During the holidays, a special version called the Grand Ferrero Rocher appears in stores, switching from golf ball to softball size. The pure gold bow and wrapper denote a milk chocolate version, while a brown bow and wrapper indicate that dark chocolate is inside. No white chocolate person is produced. Each of the balls is around 3/16″ thick and hollow inside, but firm enough to resist accidental cracking during transport. They sell for around $6 each, and we typically buy one every year as a treat.
