Everyday Eatery

In Irvine, largely traditional but pleasantly upgraded American breakfast and brunch options

We rarely write about basic, traditionally American restaurants here, but on occasion, we’ll visit someplace that’s noteworthy for delivering a nice experience while fitting that description. Located in Sand Canyon Plaza in Irvine, Everyday Eatery makes clear from its name that it’s not aiming for anything edgy or unusual, then does a good job with its limited menu of breakfast and lunch items.

Shown here are its espresso mascarpone waffle – a large, freshly made Belgian-style waffle with sliced fruit, salted caramel syrup, and scoops of espresso-infused mascarpone cream cheese – as well as its chipotle chicken breakfast burrito, alternatively available with applewood smoked bacon or turkey sausage as a protein. Each of these items represents the general vibe at Everyday Eatery, which is “modestly updated, broadly appealing American brunch fare.” We enjoyed both, as well as a lavender green tea lemonade that had the right balance of lavendar syrup to avoid a bitter aftertaste.

A unified all-day menu focused on brunch items covers breakfast and lunch, with “closer to lunch” options limited to two rice bowls, one salad, and three sandwiches. Entrees here go for around $16 each, and sides for under $6. There’s limited seating indoors, complemented by additional spots outdoors. Consider visiting for a quality American breakfast with coffee or tea.
