Eiswelt Gelato

If you measure your frozen treats by cuteness factor, this place has the right scoops for you

Some gelato shops try to win you over with amazing flavors; others use presentation tricks, typically in their display cases, to get you salivating. Having started out in the former direction, Westminster’s Eiswelt Gelato apparently pivoted to the second, but with a modern social media twist: Instead of beautifying the gelatos inside its display freezers, it turns its scoops into cute Instagram-ready animal heads. Guided by a list behind the counter, kids (and some adults) can choose from chocolate-inked monkey, unicorn, pig, dog, panda, pig, and other animal options, some with multiple stacked scoop-heads. Each is available in a cup or cone at reasonable prices, and if you don’t like the idea of eating happy little animals, you can skip the facial customizations in favor of unadorned gelato.

Cuteness aside, there’s nothing particularly great or bad about the gelato here; it tends to be on the sweet side, and not ultra creamy, so it wouldn’t be at the top of our lists on taste or texture. Vietnamese-leaning flavor choices that were once exotic and locally interesting (such as Vietnamese Coffee, Taro & Coconut, or Mung Bean) have become quite common around here, and from our visits, generally taste better elsewhere. Our recommendation is to consider this place for the visual novelty more than anything else, particularly if you’re looking to reward kids or take photos with animal-loving adults.
