Eataly – NYC

There are now three Eataly locations in NYC alone, with a fourth coming in 2025

When the first U.S. location of Eataly opened in 2010, it was an instant sensation, fueling existing American passions for Italian cuisine with 42,500 square feet worth of authentic imported products and artisanal-quality prepared foods. What became known as Eataly Flatiron set the stage for Eataly Los Angeles, Eataly Chicago, and Eataly Las Vegas, as well as three more NYC stores. It also inspired Mercado Little Spain, José Andrés and the Adrià brothers’ Eataly-styled interpolation of Barcelona’s Boqueria and Madrid’s Mercado de San Miguel at the city’s upscale Hudson Yards development.

Located inside Manhattan’s Westfield World Trade Center, home to the Oculus, Eataly Downtown serves as a more compact version of the still-thriving Flatiron original, still well-equipped with its own collection of Italian mini-shops. Stunning handmade pastas, raviolis and desserts, as well as a vast array of flatbread pizzas and paninis, join premium meats and seafood, wine and spirits – all ready to take home.

The atypically small selection of restaurants inside focuses on La Pizza and La Pasta, which gets more of a chance to stand out here than in other Eataly locations. We suggest sampling a tricolore pizza that shifts from green pesto to white four-cheese to red margharita, then golden arancini balls, Italian hams, market-produced pastas, and bread with olive oil. Then wander the market and find dolci (desserts) including mini cakes, chocolate-hazelnut spheres, and biscotti. Specialty coffees from Lavazza remain as distinctive as ever, and worth a stop every visit, morning or night; we recommend the Bicerin, a chocolate-coffee-cream combination that tastes like a lava-hot melted candybar mixed with espresso and sweet milk – heaven on any chilly day.

A third NYC Eataly, Eataly SoHo, opened in late 2023; a fourth location is currently planned for Hudson Yards, near Mercado Little Spain, in mid-2025.
