Eataly Las Vegas
Even without most of its traditional market offerings, the Vegas location of Eataly is still super for tourists
What would the Italian supermarket chain Eataly look like if it was almost exclusively focused on prepared foods and only lightly involved in running a traditional supermarket? The Las Vegas location of Eataly answers that question definitively: It’s close to a paradise for tourists, and perhaps less appealing to the home-bound Italian fans many other Eataly locations cater to.
Occupying 40,000 square feet in the Park MGM hotel’s southeast corner – only two-thirds the size of Eataly Chicago, but with a better use of space – Eataly Las Vegas includes most of the chain’s expected mini-concepts: a collection of six separate “Cucina del Mercato” counters with individual specialties (pasta, charcuterie, Roman pizza, sandwich, street food, and meat/fish), two cocktail and wine bars, a Caffé Lavazza coffee shop, and miniature sweet shops for gelato, cannoilis, mini cakes and cookies.
For prepared foods, the store also has a standalone restaurant called La Pizza & La Pasta, virtually identical in Neapolitan pizza and handmade pasta offerings to other Eataly locations, and a four-night-per-week, dinner-only Tuscan restaurant called Toscana. Italian wines and spirits are available from an on-premises store, Eataly Vino, while small collections of groceries – almost entirely imported sodas, cookies, candies, and packaged goods – are also available for purchase.
When we’re in Las Vegas, we make a special trip over to Caffé Lavazza for their bicerin, a hot layered drink made with espresso, hot chocolate, and whipped milk or cream. and snag whatever desserts look particularly appealing that day. We frequently find reasons to stop for the flawless Neapolitan pizzas (including textbook margheritas) and salads, as well.
This particular location faces extreme competition given its proximity to excellent alternatives (including the adjacent Roy Choi restaurant Best Friend, only steps away, and restaurants at the Cosmopolitan hotel), but it’s one of the very best Italian destinations in Vegas, and certainly worth visiting.
