Fika Fika Creamery
Rodeo 39's first ice cream shop has closed, but its drink shop inspiration lives on in LA
When Rodeo 39 Public Market opened in Stanton, an improbably small ice cream shop was located near the front entrance, and remained there for four years. An offshoot of the owners’ coffee and tea shop, Fika Fika Coffee, the Rodeo 39 Fika Fika Creamery location seemed barely larger than a couple of counter spaces with a display case full of ice cream containers. The flavors, it turned out, were being made in a central kitchen space elsewhere.
There were quite a few good choices, including cappuccino coffee and many teas (hojicha, jasmine, osmanthus oolong, Thai) inspired by the beverage shop, fruit and floral flavors like mango-matcha, lychee, guava, and rose-raspberry, plus Strawberry Pocky, pina colada, black sesame soy milk, and a bright purple young coconut ube. Waffle cones and bowls, including a dark purple ube and a red rose, were as distinctive as the flavors.
Fika Fika was replaced at Rodeo 39 by Remicone, a “premium” Korean ice cream concept. While there are currently no Fika Fika locations in Orange County, the chain continues to operate coffee shops in Los Angeles, and refers Creamery customers to a catering inquiry web page.
