El Cortijo Grill Seafood Bar

A small collection of reasonably priced, well-known Peruvian dishes in Santa Ana

In the 2010s, the culinary world’s interest in Peruvian cuisines peaked, shining a spotlight on Peru’s indigenous recipes, as well as Chinese (Chifa) and Japanese (Nikkei) fusion dishes. At El Cortijo Grill, you’ll find a small but well-focused menu with traditional Peruvian dishes – a few ceviches and soups, handfuls of appetizers, steak, seafood, and chicken dishes, plus basic desserts. Unlike The Vox Kitchen, Peruvian fusion items are nowhere to be found here.

This is a very good place to explore and enjoy the basics: To get started, we recommend trying the delicious classic Lomo Saltado plate with beef, fries, onions, tomatoes and rice, a proper plate of mixed seafood with garlic sauce, and some tasty fried rice with chicken. We’d also strongly recommend the generously portioned mixto ceviche, which soaks sea bass, shrimp, octopus, squid, and corn nuts in the famous Peruvian lime, onion, and chili sauce called “tiger’s milk.”

While El Cortijo Grill’s menu doesn’t wander off the main Peruvian path, focusing largely on greatest hits, we would certainly visit again.
