La Ka Viet
A new Vietnamese coffee, tea, and Japanese kakigori shop with strong matcha flavors
So recently replacing a Hui Lau Shan location in Westminster that its temporary sign is comparatively hard to read, La Ka Viet is a new coffee, tea, and shaved ice cafe specializing in Vietnamese-style drinks, puddings, and snacks, as well as Japanese kakigori. It’s notably in the same plaza with Quan Vy Da and Banh Cuon Tay Ho.
What caught our attention at La Ka Viet were the matcha drinks, which are quickly earning a reputation for having strong matcha flavor – across the Matcha Einspanner and Matcha Foam Coffee we ordered, there was enough actual green tea flavor to thrill us as matcha fans, though each of the drinks had so much ice that we were left sipping egg foam and thick, sweet cream with matcha powder well after finishing the liquid below them.
We would consider returning to try some of the other menu items, which include pineapple and passionfruit cold brews (!), five type of Japanese kakigori ice dishes (strawberry, matcha, milk tea, Thai, and avocado), coffee and pandan jellies, and a handful of savory items ranging from banh mi to pate chaud and croissants. That said, La Ka Viet’s location is located in the heart of a very cafe-dense part of Westminster, so we’ll be looking for some reason to revisit rather than exploring other locations.
