Moozi Tea Bar

A legitimately nice little tea shop in the middle of a particularly distracting Garden Grove plaza

Considered or visited in complete isolation from its immediate surroundings, Moozi Tea Bar would be a standout. This small but mighty Garden Grove restaurant covers all the bases with butterfly pea tea teas and milks, matcha and Thai green teas, slushes and Oreo options. Drinks we’ve sampled on multiple visits include the Blue Garden Milk Tea, Peach Lychee Tea, and dragonfruit Tropical Magenta; their fruit flavors consistenly taste fresh, and their sweet drinks aren’t cloying. In other words, they’re at least as good as expected, maybe better.

On the other hand, the macarons were somewhat underwhelming for us. Of the 12 promised flavors, they had five in stock when we visited, so we tried Taro, Coffee, Raspberry, and Rose – all a little larger than many macarons elsewhere, though a little less intensely flavored, which is always a bummer for us.

Moozi’s biggest challenge is its location. It’s in the center of a plaza occupied by multiple local heavy hitters, including Oc & Lau, Thai Avenue, and Pho Flavor, plus two dessert shops on opposite sides: Sweethoney and Bake & Che. There are also numerous tea shops nearby, including The Vintage 1979. That’s why we can’t count the number of times we’ve (a) driven over to this plaza for something else, hoping we’d have the appetite for Moozi afterwards, then didn’t, (b) discussed going to Moozi but wound up elsewhere, or (c) come over for Moozi but been too early given its hours.

If we lived just down the street, or it was open earlier in the morning, we’re pretty sure we would be frequent Moozi visitors, as the tea shop is legitimately nice, and the lineup of drinks are compelling. As-is, it has become more of a special occasion destination for us, but a place we talk about fondly all the time.
